Out of control...

That is what Z said as I was rummaging through the house finding anything and everything I could spray paint white or red to accessorize my office. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to something old and overlooked. Things I had planned on selling in our GS have now become new treasures. I've always been a sucker for make-over shows and now I get to witness it first hand with silly little household trinkets.

Here is example 1: Old Tray Z had at his bachelor pad. Probably purchased at Pier 1. Cute by itself but really doesn't fit in anywhere in our house anymore. It was in my "let's get rid of it" box and I rescued it because I had a vision...

It has now become a tray to hold my desk accessories.

Example 2: This is a bird my sister got me for Christmas.
It is kind of an inside joke that I love birds (not real birds just the kind you decorate with or wear). Somewhere deep inside of me lives a hippie who wears long skirts and runs bare footed through flower patches in Colorado...but that is another story for another day...back to the bird. So anyways I love this bird but I wanted it to be a part of my office. So she got a make-over.

Here are a couple other things I grabbed from my house to turn into office accessories. Both of these items were centerpieces at our wedding. They will all find their home on my bookshelves.

Here they are in their 2nd life:

I love that I have started "thinking outside of the box". A year ago I would have went out and spent a fortune buying all new furniture and accessories for my office. I would have been stressed out trying to make everything "matchy matchy" and I would have bought and returned items several times before ending up frazzled and empty handed. The DIY blogging world has taught me so much about finding use and beauty in the things already around me. Most of the items that I am making new again have sentimental value and mean so much more to me than anything I could have bought new.

  1. If you don't mind answering, what kind of spray paint are you using? They look so much better than anything I have every seen spray painted. Keep up the good work!

  2. You go girl. I think it is awesome. I would suggest not overdoing the red. It only becomes a pop of color when it isn't overused. I love the la fonda and your stenciling. Keep going. When can I come see?
