First of all, I love my desk. I love it because it is real wood (not the particle board of my college days), I love it because it is La Fonda Turquoise, and I love it because it is exactly what I have been looking for and I made it that way myself. There is something to be said about a little elbow grease that makes something mean that much more to you.
Here is the journey my desk and I have taken over the last 10 days....
Desk Before:
The desk primed and ready. We used a can of Kilz ordorless primer (started out with primer in a spray can...fail).
Z helping with the priming. It didn't take long for him to jump on the bandwagon.
The desk paint completed. La Fonda Turquoise is the color
I decided on. Who couldn't love a name like La Fonda???

Next for the stenciling. Which by the way, is not as easy as it looks.
The final step was the glazing. We used antiquing black glaze from Lowe's. This was definitely a step that took quite a bit of trial and error and some added coats of La Fonda. I had envisioned taking this pretty white stencil and covering it in the glaze to make the stencil blend in more with the background....FAIL...
Lesson learned. Do not glaze over a white stencil. It will turn brown...and ugly. Thank goodness Z came home right about this time as I was throwing a mini temper tantrum. He took over the brush and salvaged my mess. We repainted this side and started over.
Zac glazing the crevices of the desk.
The finished product!!!
It finally makes its way into our office. Still so much work to do in the office, but at least we have a starting point.
I have had so many mixed reactions when I have showed friends and family including
"I love it"
"oh" (probably meaning ick)
"uh huh" (meaning you really put all that time into that)
"you go girl" (coming from my mom)
...And I realized that what matters is that I love it! And that Z and I had a blast painting it.
Here are some of the plans I have for our office. Some of the items are ready to be added and some are still in the works.
So much left to do! And so many more decisions to make! AHHHH! :)
